Project 01 – small scale prototype
This week, I refined my original idea about designing a signboard for a tree. I did some research on the size of the signboard and it seems like I need to make it at least 1.5 meters long in order to let people see the signboard on the tree.
Another thing I noticed is that roadside trees in urban don’t always have a large crown cover, which makes my signboard can be easily seen even from far away from the tree.
As for the rail track, after research, I noticed that a rail track can somehow help the whole system defend wind and it would also be easier to settle a rail track on the branches.
Following is the blueprint for my signboard system.
Based on these ideas, I created a small scale prototype using hardboards, sticks, straws and plastic films. I used the laser cutter to cut hardboards, the hot glue gun to stick the hardboards together, straws as bearings and plastic film as the sign. Following is my process.
Step 1 Make a sign
Step 2 Bearings and the rail track
